is Your food Right ?

​In response to recent emails, there were interesting enquiries about food supplements and food in general over the past few days.

 I’m going to explain a couple of things that may not be very clear to everyone.

For a start, using the word supplement is appropriate. That’s what these products are, supplements.

Though some of them are very successfully used as replacement meals in slimming or detox programs, they should not be regarded as the main source of everyday meals.
However, let me qualify that by saying there are places in the world and circumstances under which poverty-stricken areas exist in which they are very helpful. Indeed, a few brands are used to promote the nutritional well-being of people in such areas.

Back to everyday Western living.
The Western diet has become excessive in the use of sugars, starches, fats and chemicals.
That fact alone is a serious threat to the nutrition of any Western nation.

But the excessive consumption of these kinds of foods, along with the lack of good nutritional value, doubles, even trebles, the chance of malnutrition, obesity and sickness.

If that statement seems a bit wild or exaggerated, you may remember that the World Health Organisation concludes that 75% of all illnesses are related to the use, or abuse, of food.

Seeing that the average man should have about .75 g of protein for every kilo of body weight, and every woman should have about .5 g for every kilo of body weight, it's fair to suggest that we may inspect the quality of the food we eat. 

For a start it can be a good idea to observe the types of food were eating for about a week to 10 days. 
For instance, instead of snacking on sweetened lattes and cappuccinos,  bread jam, biscuits, buns, ice creams and sweets, and sugary drinks, we could concentrate on using fruit and savouries and drinking more water.

Meal times could consist of less starchy foods like bread, pasta, rice and chips, and more poultry, lean meat, fish and leafy vegetables or salads.
This shift alone will greatly improve the nutritional value of what we’re eating. 
Make sure you chew all foods very well and that you sip any fluids you take between well-chewed mouthfuls.

Keep alcohol low, preferably out altogether, for a couple of weeks. 

I saw eleven people on a workshop series do this recently and their energy levels went through the roof.

They stuck to it for a full fortnight.  (Individual weight losses were anything from two to nine pounds.)
And that was just by making a few considered choices and a few small changes.
As always, the open secret in any of these undertakings is consistency, the ability to persist.
