Practical Yogametrics

Dave Hegarty’s Practical Yogametrics™.
                                    (First trademarked 1973.)
Practical Yogametrics is a combination of ancient and modern disciplines. It’s a system that has been devised, developed and applied for over 55 (fifty) years.
It can be used by anyone for an 18-year-old athlete to a 98-year-old grandad, and all levels in between.
It has proven especially useful for people who don’t have time or inclination for gyms, running around the streets at six in the morning, or doing a lot of the conventional classes, systems and methods.

But they know they need a system to keep themselves well and healthy.
They need to be fit, and on top of their game.

So Yogametrics is not your average workout.
It’s more, much more, than that.
It can been  done in the office, the home, even in the car.
It uses the greatest gym in the world.  That’s the one underneath your skin.
So it’s accessible, no matter where you are, or when you want it.
You don’t need equipment. Your body is your equipment.

We have resources within us that most people don’t even know about, let alone use.
It’s a mind/body system of getting the most from yourself, and your life, with a lot less wear and tear.

  1. The program assumes nothing. It starts at the very beginning. It is a course in every sense of the word; it teaches you what to do, how to do it, and shows you ways of sustaining your results
It begins with the most important two factors that influence every move and everything              we do; Posture, and Breathing patterns.
This is what lays the foundation for success.
How we walk, sit, stand and breathe all have a profound influence on how we live.

These two factors influence everything else that we do.
Like all foundations, they need to be in place before any other development takes place.
These give value to all other aspects of being fit, healthy and well.

Such is the impact of these, that once learned, they not only assure that we function well, but make it very difficult to function badly.
Good posture is what allows good breathing.
Good Breathing, once established, draws Posture into alignment. Each perpetuates the other.
The importance of breathing well is finally getting its recognition in the mainstream of fitness and wellness activity. This has come about as a direct result of a huge campaign in the USA.

When the significance of healthy breathing patterns was recognised by the National Institute of Health, a campaign was instigated which was called “Learn more, breathe better”.
This swept through America, and is now finding its way into the consciousness of Europe.

What has been seen is the importance of the link between the mind and the body, and how each is influencing the other every moment of the day. The most influential factor through which the mind and body connect is the pattern of our breathing.
What most people don’t realise, is that we have much more influence over our breathing patterns, our habits of thinking, and our feelings, than we have ever imagined.

Dr. Bruce Lipton, in his book, ‘the Biology of Belief’, illustrates this fact very well.

How we think determines how we feel.
How we feel determines how we act, behave, perform, respond to life.
I think we’re all agreed that life is not so much what happens to us, as to how we respond to what happens to us.
Armed with this awareness, we can see how we can influence our responses to life, and therefore the quality of the life we lead.

From this it can be seen that how we use our breathing patterns to influence the mental and emotional states in which we exist, that we can use that influence to shape our Mindset, our Attitude and our Practice of Living.

And that’s only the start.
