A Vital Concern...

If you're building a house, you make sure you’ve got a good foundation. If you’re learning a sport, you start with the basics, the fundamentals. If you’re learning a musical instrument you begin with the chords on the scales.
All skills have their fundamentals, and they can be learned.

But more significantly, they NEED to be learned.

Illness apart, being fit, healthy and well is a skill. And it has the fundamentals that can be learned just like any other skill.

Once you have a good foundation, you can go in any direction you like. If your house is well founded, you can build it tall, wide, broad, whatever you want, so long as you to stay on the foundation.

That’s why fitness programs need the fundamentals. They need to be learned, practised, and assimilated. Then they form the foundation for a robust fitness, scintillating health, and a dynamic sense of well-being.

So, you ask, what are the fundamentals?

The fundamentals are use of posture and breathing.

Like the house that tumbles over when the foundation fails, or the pianist who misses notes as she tries more advanced pieces, or the rugby player, or hurler, drops balls, misses tackles and fumbles passes when he hasn’t practised the basics, so too, the fitness disciple suffers as he tries to progress.

When posture and lungs are out of alignment, with the consequential strain on muscles,  organs and circulation, the fitness student can be missing up to 50% of the benefits she should be getting.

That's no exaggeration. Think about it.

While you are thinking about that, I’ll be writing why that’s the case, for the next piece, on Monday

Have a wonderful weekend, drive safely , keep your distance, wash your hands and wear your mask.
