Arnold Schwarzenegger and the Mindful Act…
In truth, Arnold was practising mindfulness long before anyone gave it a name. That’s how he did his workouts; mindfully.
For every inch, of every repetition, on every workout, Arnold was mindful, present, with complete attention to every nuance of movement that burst through his body and flooded his veins.
That’s training; attending to the movement, its effect, how it hits the body, and how to vary or maintain it, for the result you’re after.
The same goes for breathing, eating, relaxing, running, game-performing. The real benefit comes when you pour your heart and soul into the move, deliver the execution, finish what you started.
In fact, that about sums up all that the wonderful concept of being mindful is; giving full attention to the moment.
You can practise this behaviour as you drive. Do you remember when you started? You had to think your way through every gearchange, every left/right indication, every braking,  and every acceleration.
The first few solo drives were exhausting. When you left the car, you felt drained. You wondered how you were going to get to grips with this skill.
Three months later, you’ve completed a 10 mile drive and you’ve only hazy recollections of parts of the journey. Your mind went wandering far from the driving process, and the daydreams transported you elsewhere. Your driving  had become automatic. You were on autopilot.
So, try it again, noting every gearchange, every brake-point, avery twist, ess-bend, gradient of your journey.
Then do this in life; and you’ll be training yourself in the gift of Mindful Awareness.
