The Brain and Fitness…
‘It’s all in the mind’, we say. And we say it a lot. But how much do we realise this?
Everything, every single thing, was started with an idea. Businesses that were started, cars that were designed, lands discovered, things invented, all came from an idea someone had.
Which is why we also say that the fellow who never had a bad idea, didn’t always have good ones either, all the time.
Ideas are the force in our lives. People get an idea, then keep thinking about it, let it develop, begin to put a shape on it, and before you know it, some new invention, or a rejigging of an old one, comes into reality. And all from an idea.
Which also indicates the power and the significance of the brain in our lives. A healthy productive and well nourished brain can make the difference between living and existing. Our lives are regulated by the state of health we’re in.
Never so much as now has the emphasis been on the state of our health, mental, physical, emotional.
And never has it been shown so much before that we can influence these qualities. One way or the other.
We can truly contribute a lot so that we enjoy good physical health, good mental health, and the stable and powerful use of our emotions as a direct result. As shown in an earlier post, the next few weeks will be how we go about doing this.
But first, we’ll have a look at what happens when we do nothing.
When we let ourselves go, when the body slouches, the circulation slows, and the breathing shallows, we starve the body of oxygen. The cells of the body can’t function, so muscles atrophy, organs weaken and falter, the whole system degenerates, often far more rapidly than it would naturally. Our lives today are not what we were designed for. Lack of activity, processed food, insane working practices, not so much in the way of being hard or long, we can manage that, but  as a source of stress, worry, fear, and even guilt, all conspire to undermine our systems and our mental state,so that we’re often knocked off the pathway to health and well-being, and our attitudes and minds are so altered to see that as the norm.
Our systems get hauled out of alignment. We get tired, physically and mentally. Because we’re tired, we do less, get less activity, less proper sleep, less decent nourishment, so that we get so tired, in mind and body, that the very thought of doing anything is exhausting.
But that can be changed. It starts with an idea, and a decision. We’re back to the use of the mind again.
The next few weeks will be about taking that decision, doing it with a will, and seeing it through.
Have a good weekend, and we’ll meet on Monday with the first practical step.

If you know someone who is suffering from a mental health disorder, please do not hesitate to approach them and ask if they need help. Most people who are struggling with their mental health find it hard to ask for help.
