Simplistic as this may sound, when we go on a journey, we need directions. That’s what the previous post was about; giving direction and meaning to what we may be doing.
For most of us, taking time to consider where we’re going in Life can appear as a self-indulgence. We say we’re too busy, we’ll get round to it later, that’s fine if you’ve the time to be thinking like that.
In fact, it’s one of the most important things we can learn to do for ourselves. It can be revealing, daunting, inspiring.
Taking stock shows us where we are. Then we can begin to probe where we might want to go. We’ve a starting point. The next step can be found. And as we keep on taking stock, learning to observe, we begin to see how development can be progressed; what needs to be done, how we might go about it, whether we do it ourselves or outsource it.
And outsourcing goes for personal living as it does for business. It may be a phrase associated with business strategy, but it can be a useful thing to get other, more competent sources than ourselves, to ease a way through an obstacle.
So do this again; get your pen, paper. Take that decision, use the discipline it takes, and articulate to yourself where you think you are.
Then fire down where you feel you’d like to be. This needs to be spontaneous, unfettered by any inhibitions or hesitations, written from the heart. It’s letting yourself be who you are, and it’s not for anyone else’s eyes, so fire it out, plant it bravely on the page, let yourself rip. Be true to yourself. It’s you, talking to you. It has nothing to do with anyone or anything else.
Do it for twenty one consecutive days. It can be long, short, intermediate, whatever. The only rule is to do it.
Twenty one days. Then look at what you’ve written. Don’t discuss it with others. This has nothing to do with outside approval.
I’d urge you to do this, as the feedback I’ve had from the last suggestion has been a revelation. It’s as if people are rediscovering the potential of their lives.
