How To Make The Most of This Week...

25/6/2021

Making the most of anything is about exploiting potential, isn't it?

So, how do you do that?

You need to have some kind of an idea what your potential might be. And you need to believe in it.
Over the past few months, I've been asking people what they believe about their own potential.
Answers were varied, and at variance with what you would expect.

Many of the people I asked are good at what they do. Some are great. Yet, when I asked these people what they felt about their potential, they either had never thought about it, or answered in a self-effacing way as if they didn't think they had any, but were trying to make what they could, of the little they had.

i believe that that notion comes from the training we get in our educational system that modesty is a great virtue, and I agree with that. But I also believe that the ardent pursuit of modesty for its own sake can turn it around and render it a detrimental characteristic as to be a handicap.

While few things are more repellent than triumphal swaggering, there is a happy medium. We need to acknowledge our abilities, and then in the spirit of true modesty, hone them to the sharpest we can, and thus lay the foundation for the way to use ourselves and those abilities to our own and others' advantage.

That then, would be an example of developing our potential.

With that in mind, how do YOU feel about your own potential?

This will be the next step on Half Hour Friday, this coming Friday at 9 am, on zoom. If you feel that that might be of use to you, just hit 'reply' with the letters 'RSVP', and I'll get an invite out to you on Thursday.

In the meantime, stay well, keep breathing and think about your potential.
