Intentions

Intention
I was talking with a man about the power of intention. He said, ‘The road to hell is paved with good intentions.’ Fair point.
But he wasn’t talking about intentions, then. He was talking about resolve, the need to put intentions into action. That’s a different thing.

Intentions are powerful. They guide the mind, give a direction.
If you start your day with no intention, you’ve no direction, and you’re vulnerable to any breeze of influence that comes your way.

Your intention doesn’t have to be earth shattering. It can be a simple, clear idea on what you need to do over the next hour or two; make a phone call, post a letter, get the bit of paperwork done. Or breathe deeply for 60 seconds while you select what it is you intend.

As you select intentions, clarify them to yourself, and act them out, you begin to create a pattern of order and achievement in your life. As you keep on doing it, your life begins to respond in small and big ways to what you intended.

You also begin to experience a strong sense of calculated direction. The events accumolate and gather momentum.

Distractions, diversions, outside influences, have less power in your viewpoint and decision making.

You tend to develop what people today prize as the fabled quality of ‘focus’. It’s spoken of as if it were some elusive and mystical state of mind, reserved for the chosen few.

It’s not. It’s the result of the habit of mind directing, directing your mind.

Once you understand this, you can then decide what you want to think about, how you want to think about it, and create your own belief system from that.
