How to Get Your Mind to Work for You.

Sometimes in life we are amazed by the things we notice. For instance, we may have been thinking How we might find some way to get something done. We think about it, and think about it, and keep on thinking about it.
Then for some reason, we forget about it. And it could be in a conversation, an observation, in the content of a song, or some banal phrase spoken by somebody on the periphery of our hearing, But away relief reveals itself to us that we would never have expected.
This is the Reticular Activating System (RAS) at work. That is the cluster of cells in the brain that seeks what is important to us, and blanks what we find irrelevant.  The RAS manifests itself in many ways in our lives. If you are in a noisy room full of chattering conversation, and someone speaks your name, your name usually tends to come through the chatter and gets heard by you.
Our names are important to all of us. What is being said about us matters to us.
Another instance would be if you're looking to buy a new car. Imagine that you have a make in mind. What you will find is that you'll notice any color or model of that particular make.
The mind has been set in a direction. Even without a realizing it, you are searching.
Again, if you are looking for a kind of shirt, or shoes, even without noticing it, your eye will be drawn to every shop window that has clothes or shoes in it. Your mind, again, has been directed, and is responding.
This is how the mind works. The more emotionally involved we are with what we're seeking, the more aware we become of the presence off that sought-after entity.
Awareness of this fact can be of immense value to us in many ways, not the least of which is how to channel our focus and attention on something we need to do, to get what we want.
When we can attach the desire for a goal, to the means of getting it, it makes many things  more attainable to us. Difficulties, obstacles, problems, do not have the same force when one is driven and highly motivated. This can be a real boost two anyone who is driven by the reward for something, but maybe finding it difficult to manage the process.
When the desire and the motivation for the objective are so powerful, the discomfort, the pain, the time, the effort, will pale into insignificance at the prospect of achieving the goal.
That is how the Reticular Activating System works. This is not some vague idea cooked up to make an interesting post. It is an irrefutable, physiological, scientific fact.
Go over this post a couple of times. Then write, yes write down, at least Seven instances in your life where the Reticular Activating System evidenced itself.
Do it now. Develop your awareness.
Awareness is vital.
Then you can see how it can work against you as well, and defend yourself accordingly.
