SSIN Your Way to a Successful New Year...

SSIN your way to a Healthy Year…
In any successful endeavour, there’s a system. Even if it isn’t intentional, it evolves during practice and establishes itself. When we need to achieve an objective, it’s useful to have a system of sorts before we start. That’s what allows repetition, habit, consistency. So here’s a suggestion for the coming year’s resolutions.
You can use the word’SSIN’ as your acronym. The first letter refers to System.
We’ve already mentioned it, and it’s self -explanatory. But we need to acknowledge that we’re using the system we’ve adopted. That way, we don’t get sidetracked, ambushed, distracted, and even if we do, we’ve got the system to move back into.
The second ‘S’ is for ‘Simple’.
Simplicity is the key to success in anything. A simple act, strategy, or method, constantly done, outdoes all the elaboration, complication and blinding science that, while admirable, gets designed out of existence, and then gets relegated neatly to the drawer.
So, keep it Simple, do it well.
The second letter represents ‘INTERESTING’. If you’re interested, or halfway so, you’ll take an interest, and do it. Interest also gives life, colour, vitality, to your project; both for yourself and your intended audience.
‘Interesting’ also helps the continuity and the attention to interesting detail that can make a huge difference to the value of a project. If you’re interested in something, it’s likely you’ll know a bit more about it, have opinions, ideas, and insights, to that thing than if it were something about which you didn’t really care.
Interest also improves your perception and how you assimilate information.
A man recently told me he hadn’t much of a memory, because he couldn’t get his mind to recall certain aspects of a project he had in hand. He complained about his memory letting him down. We spoke about it, and he got a different viewpoint of the project; how it could affect a goal he had. Even though the interest was indirect, it was enough to redirect his attention, and he found it easier to recall the relevant facts.
What spurred me to draw his attention to his wonderful memory, was the fact that he could name every member, of every Manchester United team, since the Munich Air Disaster! Exploit your interests!
And of course, ‘N’ is for the all-important ‘Now’.
Taking action, making a start, is a necessity in anything. Otherwise we end up putting off, and off, and off, using every available excuse to prevent ourselves from taking the first step, without which the rest of the steps can’t be taken either.
So, whatever you’ve resolved for the year, a promise you’ve made to yourself, or to anyone else, organise a Simple System, develop an Interest in it, and start Now.
