The Mind in Your Life…
Psychologists and Mind Coaches are now discovering that mental techniques like re-framing, quietening the ‘inner voice’ and visualization are all greatly enhanced through the practice of Meditation.
And action.
Mindfulness, the current buzzword in the wellness industry, has been presented as if it’s the panacea for all ills and difficulties.
It is, and it isn’t.
Being mindful is being aware of how you’re using yourself. It means you’re watchful how you behave, act, react, think. And that’s the good bit. It allows you to respond in a way to life that’s helpful, letting you use the powers of observation and decision. That simply means that you become aware that you can decide what to do about your circumstances, whatever they may be.
Where it isn’t helpful is where it implies that simply by staring at a peanut, watching a spot on the wall, perusing the shape of a peel as it lifts from the orange, helpful as these exercises are, that your problems will be solved as if by wishing them to be so.
That approach to Mindfulness is, to me, a bit like the book, on ‘Attraction’, where thinking dreamily about succeeding in some effort is going to bring it about.
Again, there is merit in picturing, imagining, visualizing, but unless action is taken, that’s all they become, and remain; pictures, imaginings and visual wishes.
Action is the key to anything.
If you want to bring something about in your life, make a start. Take the first step. Then the second, the third, and so on. Then you’re on your way. You’re getting there. Even if you’ve gone in the wrong direction, you can always change it; but you know what not to do now, and you can start searching for the right way.
But get started. Do something. An imperfect journey is better, miles better, than the perfect plan hidden in the drawer.
Make this a good week for yourself, and for those near and dear to you.
