What’s The Point…?
Why would anyone want to get fit, healthy, well?
Why would it appeal to you? What does it mean in your life? Everyone has his/her interpretation of it. What’s important is that you get the reason why it may be for you.
With the levels of body development, fitness, speed and power being achieved in the gyms and sports arenas today, it’d be easy to think that anything less than a six-pack, mighty strength, and the 100 yards in 10 seconds to be substandard.
This is important. Defining what your health and wellness level means to you, is key to starting, achieving, and maintaining a level of health and well-being that lets you energise your life, focus your mind, and live well.
In my experience, too many people do the right thing, but for the wrong reason. Hence the swamping of gyms, classes and fitness methods after Christmas and up to about March or April. Then the attendances ease off.
Resolutions falter, goals become dimmed, sense of purpose wanes, decision falters.
So, what to do about it?
Do this simple exercise. Get a quiet place, with a pen and paper, or your e-notebook, and answer the following questions. And don’t necessarily expect to find satisfactory answers straight away. And that’s ok. This is not a competition. Nor is it a race. It’s an exercise in self examination. It may take time. The questions may just trigger a frame of mind to allow you begin to explore what you hadn’t thought about for a while, or ever.
Why would you want to be fit?
What does it mean to you?
What would it mean to your work-life?
Is it to improve physical wellness? To improve physical appearance? Why would you want that?
Would it boost your confidence? Help you feel better about yourself? Your life? Your relationships?
Would it help you use your resources, talents, abilities? Do you believe it’d help you develop your potential?
How do you feel about your potential? Do you feel you could make more of you, your abilities, your opportunities?
How is this significant to you? Never mind what anyone else is doing. This is YOUR decision, YOUR choice, about YOUR life.
Do this exercise for yourself. People who do, find that their focus narrows, intention sharpens, and they quickly find themselves in possession of information to which we all need access, and rarely exploit.
It’s there. Waiting.
